Australia have called their right-arm fast bowler Peter Siddle for the Boxing Day Test against New Zealand as a cover up for the injured fast bowler Josh Hazlewood.
Australia are now hosting New Zealand a home Test series. The hosts have started the series on a winning note by beating New Zealand by 269 runs in the Perth Test. The second Test will be the Boxing Day Test and as usual the Test will be played in Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Ahead of the second Test, Australia have a blow in the form of Josh Hazlewood as the fast bowler was injured during the first Test at Perth. His availability for the next Test is not sure up to now.
As a precaution for this, Australia have added the right-arm fast bowler Peter Siddle to the Test squad for the Boxing Day Test. Peter Siddle is the only addition for the next Test and rest of the squad will be the same. The 35-year-old fast bowler played 67 Tests and scalped 221 wickets and he featured in the Ashes in England.
“He is a proven Test match performer with an exceptional knowledge of the MCG which will be a valuable part of our preparation,” said national selector Trevor Hohns.
Australia squad: David Warner, Joe Burns, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Travis Head, Tim Paine (c), Pat Cummins, Mitch Starc, Nathan Lyon, James Pattinson, Michael Neser, Peter Siddle.
